The War of Independence was a seminal time in Irish history. To broaden awareness of the period, particularly the role of County Wexford in 1919-1921, and to encourage more discourse among younger people, this project saw the commission of ‘Discovery Boxes’ of replica documents and artefacts which will be loaned to primary and post-primary schools across Wexford during the year.
Items from the boxes include replica hand revolvers, bullets, pieces of uniform, medals, prison correspondence and a profile of 2 men and 2 women from the War of Independence collections held by the County Wexford Archive.
The boxes also include teachers’ notes which feature printed high resolution images from the county archives War of Independence collection. An online element is available from Wexford County’s Archives website here.
