The Action Plan recognises that the
key to rural revitalisation rests with
the rejuvenation of towns and
villages. It aims to make them more
attractive places to live and visit,
and to increase rural recreation and
heritage led regeneration. The
scheme also aims to increase the
number of visitors to rural areas by
12%. The schemes will be co-run
though the Department of Arts
Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the
Department of Housing, Planning,
Community and Local Government
and the Heritage Council. The
Council will play a lead role in
planning for, administering and
facilitating these schemes.
