Wex Bee Aware is a new Wexford County Council wide initiative to raise awareness and give practical help and advice on creating a bee friendly environment in our County.
Bees are declining in Ireland for two main reasons. The first and most important reason is habitat loss. The declining habitat of most importance to bees is flower rich grassland. The second reason is fragmentation of the habitats that remain. Wex Bee Aware aims to reverse the decline of our bees and there are many ways in which we can all become involved.
A new booklet, ‘Gardening for Biodiversity’ has been launched to encourage people to promote wildlife in gardens at home, with tips for beginners and those who are more ambitious DIY enthusiasts. Funded by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the booklet is available to access here.
The following links will give all sectors of our community help to make small changes to increase the bee populations in Wexford.
