If a fire occurs, get out, stay out , dial 112/999, ask for the fire service and stay on the line until the operator tells you to hang up.
-
Phoning any other number may cause a delay and valuable time may be lost.
-
When you phone the fire service you may be asked:
-
What county are you calling from?
-
What is the phone number you are calling from? This is important just in case the line drops
-
What is the address of the emergency? Give directions if required and specify key landmarks or junctions
-
What exactly has happened?
-
Are you safe and out of danger?
-
Is everyone else safe and out of danger?
-
In rural areas, it can sometimes be helpful to send someone to meet the fire engines at a key landmark or junction
-
Try to ensure everyone in your house is capable of calling the fire service and is capable of providing an address and phone number
