The core mission of Wexford County Councils Arts Office is to advance County Wexford through the arts and creativity using the following strategies of
• Engaging the public to experience art as participants and audiences
• Enabling collaboration and new partnerships that build capacity and infrastructure
• Enriching the quality of life , quality of place and quality of employment through the arts
The ‘Art Ability’ programme running since 2003, is a key priority in Wexford County Council’s Art Plan “Advancing the Arts” 2018-22, feeding into its Higher Level Goal 2 of ‘Supporting and promoting the development of socially inclusive, sustainable communities in County Wexford and ensuring that all citizens enjoy optimal health and well-being’, as well as higher Level Goal 7 ‘continue to ensure that artists are supported to make great work that can be enjoyed by all’.
Running since 2003, ‘Arts Ability’ is a person centred, participation focused initiative set within a caring environment, the primary goal of which is to provide access to high quality art experiences based on meaningful engagement between participants artists and professional artists.
The programme is underpinned by solid partnerships between Wexford County Council and the HSE to ensure a sustainable infrastructure for long term access and participation to creative art experiences for people who experience long term mental health issues and/or intellectual disabilities and to support their professional development as artists.
The core programme is currently accessed by participants and staff at:
Killagoley Training & Activation Centre (K.T.A.C.) (R.T. Unit) is a training centre based at St. Senan’s Hospital, Enniscorthy. The Visual Art Programme & Creative Writing Programme offers participant artists an inspirational and varied programme which encourages each individual along their own creative Journey.
CUMAS is a designated day centre for people with disabilities http://www.cumas.ie . The Visual Art Programme nurtures a creative environment for the participant artists to grow and develop as individuals and artists.
Wexford Residential and Intellectual Disability Service (W.R.I.D.S) is a community group home for adults with serve to profound intellectual disabilities and complex needs. The Multi-Disciplinary Arts programme provides a varied stimulating, enjoyable and engaging Multi-Disciplinary Arts Programme for the participants and staff of W.R.I.D.S.
Wexford Mental Health Association’s music programme is aimed at promoting music as a medium for facilitating well-being and recovery from mental health difficulties but also looks to promote community integration among users.
