This training programme is an element of the Ancient Connections project, a heritage, tourism and arts project, funded by the EU ERDF Ireland-Wales cross-border co-operation Programme (2017-2020); linking County Wexford in Ireland with North Pembrokeshire in Wales, specifically the ancient towns of Ferns and St. Davids.

The project’s aim is to support rural communities and the local economy; improving the cultural offering and attracting more over-seas tourists to both regions. Currently running from April 2019 – August 2023, it will explore the mentoring relationships that link the two regions historically, including St. Aidan and St. David, and motivate the communities on both sides of the Irish Sea to rediscover their joint heritage, shared stories, knowledge, skills and visitor offerings.

The project has already secured funds of over €3.8 million for a suite of work-packages, including Arts, Archaeology, Enterprise and Innovation, Community Projects, Festivals, Destination Marketing, Traditional Skills Renaissance and a new Pilgrimage route, The Wexford-Pembrokeshire Pilgrim Way.

The project supports local government, community groups and individuals to position North Wexford and North Pembrokeshire as community partners and hubs for shared tourism activity and regional development.

Carrig Conservation International Limited was founded in 1993 as a Science Based Conservation Consultant to advise architects, engineers, local authorities, state parties and building owners on how best to conserve and adaptive reuse their Heritage Buildings and Sites. It started as a Trinity College Campus Company and is now fully international with offices in Dublin, London and Naples, Italy we also have two strategic alliances with conservation companies in Montreal and Melbourne.

In recent years we have become involved in multiple studies on Energy Efficiency in our Traditional and Heritage Buildings – we are now working with many organizations around the World to bring our knowledge and expertise to the traditional & Heritage homeowners in way of a series of Training, Workshops and Clinics aimed at better informing such homeowners on how best to improve their homes making them more energy efficient, more comfortable to live in whilst making significant contributions to reducing Irelands Green House Emissions.

Ancient Connections has given us the opportunity to launch such an important series of events in Ferns Community Centre, Ferns, County Wexford on the 19th of June, 3rd of July and 10th of July.

We look forward to imparting our knowledge, research and practical experience to many home owners and local trades-people through the three events and we hope to answer many questions on “How do you Energy Retrofit an Older Building sensibly and cost effectively”

As we will be running a short clinic after each event, please do bring your photographs to show us so we can better inform you on the night.

Doors open at 17.30 and the event will commence at 18.00 and should conclude by 21.30 on the three dates. All are welcome but capacity is limited so come early
